BSAR NSW GNSS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

There are three BSAR NSW SOPs (all included in the BSAR NSW Operations Manual):

BSAR NSW SOP 9A :Generic operating procedures for all GNSS receivers

Garmin Oregon 600 SOP 9B: Additional Garmin Oregon 600 specific procedures

Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx SOP 9C: Additional Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx specific procedures

 

GNSS training courses

There are two specialised GNSS training courses conducted by BSAR NSW for it’s members:

GNSS for Land Search and Rescue (SAR) Basic Course

  • Usually run of a mid-week evening for three to three and a half hours
  • A solid introduction and standardisation course
  • Not only for beginners: experienced GNSS users should do this course to properly understand BSAR NSW specific procedures and standardisation

GNSS for Land Search and Rescue (SAR) Advanced Course

Usually run of a mid-week evening for three to three and a half hours

    • Educates participants on how GNSS operates
    • Why particular BSAR NSW procedures have been set
    • Key attributes of GNSS receivers suitable for Land SAR
    • Characteristics of battery types for GNSS receivers
    • ‘Advanced’ does not mean this course is for the technical guru: far from it. As long as you are motivated then you will learn
